New owners Virtus Mining and India's Lloyds Metals plan to restart Chemaf's copper and cobalt operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo by 2027, temporarily suspending production in the meantime, a union executive said. Chemaf is one of the DRC's major cobalt producers, making the restart plan significant for global battery and critical minerals supply chains.
