Funders commit $1.3 billion to Zambia critical minerals rail

A consortium of international funders committed $1.3 billion to finance an 830-kilometer railway that will transport Zambia's critical minerals to the Atlantic coast via the Lobito Corridor. The project is expected to cost as much as $5 billion, with construction starting this year and completion slated for 2030. The corridor is central to US and European efforts to secure copper and cobalt supply chains outside of China.
