Codelco and SQM budget $3 billion for lithium project in Chile

Chilean mining giants Codelco and SQM are budgeting $3 billion to deploy new direct lithium extraction technologies at their Novandino Litio joint venture in the Atacama Desert. The investment will fund recovery of lithium from brine under the Atacama salt flat in northern Chile after the partners wrapped up project design work.
