EU-backed group warns of expensive critical metals stockpiling

EIT RawMaterials, an EU-funded group, warned that stockpiling critical minerals and creating price floors to cut Europe's reliance on China would be costly for governments, urging the bloc to develop price benchmarks instead to spur output. The EU plans EUR 3 billion in spending this year to loosen China's grip on supplies and is launching a new body to oversee investments and build stockpiles of materials key to energy transition, aerospace and defense.
