US Ambassador Pete Hoekstra said Canada and the United States should deepen cooperation across critical minerals, energy, manufacturing and defense to build an "economic fortress" for North America. He urged Ottawa to move quickly, noting that Canada did not sign onto a US critical minerals framework discussed in February and that Washington has received more project proposals from allies such as Australia than from Canada. Canada's vast mineral endowment and mining expertise make it a natural partner in reducing reliance on China.
